Open Studio Artist – Kate Usher
‘As a parent, I felt frustrated by the lack of imagination offered in the form of textiles and decoration for children’s rooms. Bored of predictable motifs and tasteless design, I set out to break the mould. Many parents prefer tasteful and unique interiors whilst children require stimulation, through colour, pattern and inspiring pictures. I was all about finding the right balance and compromise! At Kate Usher Studio, we strive to create innovative and exciting wallpapers for interior spaces which cater to the needs of both style savvy adults and their fun-loving children. We believe in bridging the fantasies of children and the tastes of adults to achieve a more liveable, creative and unique family home.’

Open Studio Artist – Richard Henry Hurst
We are proud to reveal that we will have visiting artist Richard Henry Hurst selling some of his delicate water colour prints at our open studios event. Richard describes his work as records of his “…emotional connection to the moorland landscapes of the north, to the elements, seasons and time of day, to variations in light and humidity. Using a variety of techniques, sometimes combining pictures
from different periods of his life, he works with washes of colour to form images of feeling and transience. His prints, which will be exhibited, are taken from his paintings. The scanned images are cropped and digitally enhanced to form new works which are then printed.”
To see more of his work, come along to our open studio event https://eleventhavenuestudio.wordpress.com/

Bubble – Press Release
K35 GALLERY
BUBBLE
28 September – 4 October 2013
Opening reception: 28th September, 16-18:30
Gallery K35 is pleased to present its first exhibition ‘BUBBLE’, a group exhibition
organized by Gateshead based artist Jonathan West. As North East England suffers
from significant cuts in its culture budget West decided to start a gallery that has
no institutional backing and is non-commercial. Located in a disused office-block
K35 operates outside of art competitions and closed off commercial/institutional
systems, which means it is one of the few places where critically engaged works of
art can be displayed in the North East by, as yet, unknown artists.
Inspiration for ‘BUBBLE’ came from the difficult situation faced by artists looking
to gain a foothold in the art world. Only two things were requested of the artists –
that their works were representative of their practices and fit into the gallery space.
Nine young artists who had previously never exhibited in the North East responded
by providing a wide range of works including sculpture, installation, painting and
drawing, as well as video and photography. Presented works playfully engage with
themes of materiality, critical attitudes towards art, gestural approaches to painting
and organic methods of making automatic art.
